GAIL India chartered LNG tanker Grace Emilia ran aground in Suez Canal but rescued

GAIL India chartered 174,000cbm LNG tanker Grace Emilia had ran-aground at the northern section of the Suez Canal on Wednesday afternoon. The tanker ran aground at 125km in “Little Bitter Lake” area of the canal when it was passing through the waterway at a speed of around 9 knots. However, traffic was not affected while Grace Emilia ran aground.

Suez Canal Authorities dispatched three tugs to help ill-fated tanker. The tanker was rescued at 17.40 local time and it has been successfully re-floated, according to GAC.

NYK had signed a five time-charter contract with GAIL India for Grace Emilia in December 2021. Grace Emilia is equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine that has superior fuel-consumption efficiency and can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank.
